Job Description - English Teacher

English Teacher - Alternative Provision (Chorley Area)

Location: Chorley, Lancashire
Position: English Teacher
Contract: Full-Time or Part-Time Considered
Salary: £160 - £261.78 dependent on experience
Start Date: ASAP or by arrangement

Are you a passionate and resilient English Teacher looking for a rewarding role outside of mainstream education? We are currently seeking a committed and adaptable teacher to join an alternative provision setting in the Chorley area, supporting students who require a more personalised approach to learning.

About the Role:

This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference to young people who may be struggling to thrive in traditional educational environments. You will deliver engaging and tailored English lessons that support both academic progress and personal development. Students may have a range of additional needs, including social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver creative, differentiated English lessons in line with the National Curriculum.
  • Adapt teaching to meet individual needs and abilities.
  • Foster a supportive and positive learning environment that encourages engagement and confidence.
  • Work closely with pastoral and support staff to provide holistic education.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, maintaining detailed records and reports.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS).
  • Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature.
  • A calm, compassionate, and patient approach.
  • Experience or interest in working within alternative provision, PRUs, or with SEMH students.
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students who may present challenging behaviour.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in non-mainstream or therapeutic education settings.
  • Additional training in behaviour management or SEND support.
