Environmental Services Assistant - Local Authority

• Hourly Rate: £12.60 PAYE

• Job Type: Interim/Full-time hours

Join our local authority team in Sheffield as an Environmental Services Assistant. This role is crucial in maintaining a clean and safe environment by addressing issues such as illegal dumping, vermin-infested areas, and dead animals. You will also assist with general cleaning and clearing tasks as needed.

• Complete simple paperwork and weekly timesheets.
• Follow written instructions and complete scheduled visits.
• Handle payments, including cash transactions, correctly.
• Assist with drainage investigations and basic repair work.
• Clean up illegally dumped rubbish and dead animals.
• Collect and dispose of spoiled food.
• Clean and disinfect dirty or contaminated areas, including dealing with faeces and sharp objects.
• Maintain equipment in good condition and adhere to safety procedures.
• Operate council vehicles, perform daily checks, and refuel as necessary.
• Assist with cleaning tasks at the depot.
• Comply with all council policies, particularly those concerning health and safety, equality, and customer service.
• Undertake additional tasks as agreed upon with your manager.

• Basic reading and maths skills.
• Understanding of and ability to follow health and safety regulations, including the use of protective gear.
• Must possess a valid driving licence.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Polite and helpful interaction with the public.
• Good organisational and time management skills.

• Willingness to work in unpleasant or dirty environments.
