Job Description - Facilities Manager

Goodman Masson are currently working with a Sussex social housing organisation to recruit for an interim Facilities Manager.

Pay - £30 - £35 per hour INSIDE IR35

Are you a proactive and detail-driven Facilities Manager looking to make a real impact in the public sector?

An ambitious and forward-thinking local authority is seeking a talented Facilities Manager to join their dynamic Property and Commercial Services team. You will play a key role in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and compliance of a diverse property portfolio—supporting both planned and reactive maintenance works while contributing to long-term asset strategies.

About the Role

In this varied and hands-on position, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Overseeing planned preventative and reactive maintenance works across mechanical and electrical services.
  • Monitoring compliance with statutory servicing and inspection deadlines.
  • Commissioning and supervising contractors to deliver remedial and cyclical maintenance work.
  • Managing asbestos records, legionella assessments, energy contracts, and utility usage.
  • Providing expert advice on building services, health & safety, and compliance matters.
  • Leading on condition surveys and updating the asset management database.
  • Supporting financial planning and budget analysis for property works programmes.
  • Deputising for the Property Compliance and Maintenance Manager when required.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical building services.
  • Up-to-date understanding of building compliance legislation, including H&S, asbestos, legionella, CDM and the Building Safety Act.
  • Experience in managing maintenance contractors and performance monitoring.
  • Ability to write specifications, issue permits, and coordinate works from end to end.
  • Confident user of MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Desirable:

  • Project management experience.
  • Experience in supervising or mentoring staff.
  • Scheduling and budget management.

Qualifications:

  • Higher-level qualification in Engineering or Building Services (or equivalent).
  • Health and Safety qualifications.
