Finance Manger - Professional Services

Castlefield Recruitment are partnering with the University of York on their search to recruit a Finance Manager – Professional Services on a fixed term contract until September 2027. Due to an ongoing system implementation across corporate functions, the University require an experienced Finance Manager to support their team.

The Finance Manager will manage and provide vital leadership experience as part of the wider management accounting team. This team plays a prominent role in the University’s overall financial strategy, providing critical advice and guidance to Academic Faculties and Professional Services. The Finance Manager leads the strategic financial planning for Professional services, working in conjunction with the Chief Financial and Operating Officer and the rest of the Professional Services senior leadership team. There will also be opportunities to be involved in a variety of projects aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of processes and procedures.

The Role

• Lead strategic financial planning for Professional Services
• Building strong working relationships with the Chief Financial and Operating Officer (CFOO) and Chief Academic Services Officer (CASO) and the rest of the Professional Services senior leadership team
• Share and develop best practices and ensuring consistent ways of working across the management accounting function
• Oversee all the accounting for the University’s Integrated Infrastructure Plan and capital programme
• Lead on the preparation of a robust five-year financial plan
• Leading on projects on behalf of the finance department
• Provide financial information and advice in respect of bespoke new initiatives and financial business plans, including major funding bids, strategic reviews and commercial partnerships
• Provide financial solutions to senior leaders to assist in management of the Faculty financial position
• Ensure Professional Services actively manages financial risk
• Represent the University in liaison with relevant external bodies. Ensure alignment with the financial requirements of external partners.

The Person

• A Professional Accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA)
• Experience of providing excellent financial business partnering to senior leaders
• Extensive knowledge of UK GAAP
• Change Management experience would be beneficial
