General Operative

We have a General Operative position available within Holcim Tendley Quarry is responsible for producing Asphalt to be used in the construction of roads, runways and car parks etc. This role is ideal for someone who considers themself to be reliable, proactive and eager to learn.

Location: Holcim, Tendley Quarries - Cumbria

Rate: £12.60 per hour

Overtime: £18.90 OT 1.5

Hours: 40 hours per week, 12.5hrs overtime per week available

Contract length: 2nd June 2025 to 30th November 2025

Shift Patterns: Based on a 48 hour working week shifts are varied according to customer demand. The successful applicant MUST be fully flexible. Start time begins from 04:00

Start: ASAP

Responsibilities:

• Operating the Asphalt plant (training provided)
• Maintaining the Asphalt plant including basic maintenance and greasing
• Working at height (via ladder) as part of maintenance
• Maintaining the site including cleaning duties
• Driving a loading shovel (training provided)
• Observing the site CCTV from the monitoring station
• Using the computer control system for the plant
• Navigating the program of works via computer
• Using tannoy and 2 way radio to communicate with site
• Practising the highest standards of Health and Safety at all times

Essential requirements:

• Driving licence and use of a car
• Strong work ethic and desire to learn
• Ability to work at height
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to conduct manual handling
• Sound IT literacy skills
• Some knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation
