Job Description - Head Of Curriculum

The capitals main police force are looking for a Head of Curriculum to provide effective strategic leadership within the areas of initial recruit learning programme design, programme delivery, and recruit progression. This includes oversight across content and curriculum for learning programmes delivered by Learning and Development.

This is a contract role for 6 months and will be inside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with internal and external training providers and the content development team to ensure classroom learning meets the needs of recruits, communities, and the wider business.
  • Ensure learning curriculums adhere to national and local regulations, compliance requirements, policy, and procedure.
  • Develop strong working relationships with senior stakeholders across the relevant national networks to manage developments within initial recruit learning programmes.
  • Contribute effectively to both the CIRL and the Learning Solutions team and L&D Senior Leadership Team business.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership across programme management and delivery teams, fostering an inclusive and supportive culture for both staff and new recruits.
  • Support commercial activities relevant to the design and delivery of new recruit learning, ensuring commercial providers uphold good practice principles and contribute to an excellent recruit learner experience.
  • Implement effective governance and oversight processes to manage changes to initial recruit learning programmes.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Solid understanding of national developments and standards regarding initial recruit learning.
  • Excellent knowledge of the principles of effective programme and educational design.
  • Proven leadership experience through periods of change and transformation.
  • Experience in a learning design or delivery environment.
  • Experience working with senior officers and/or stakeholders to influence and effect change.
  • Knowledge of essential requirements for probationary police officer learning and progression, and best practices in police education.
  • Awareness of barriers to learning and progression within a policing context.
  • Commitment to embedding our values and principles at a strategic level.

Desirable:

  • Experience designing work-based learning programmes for adults, specifically degree apprenticeships.
  • Experience supporting national or regional change programmes, representing our views and embedding change locally.
  • In-depth knowledge of policies and processes relevant to probationary police constables on both uniform and detective pathways.
