Locum Head of Democratic Services – Local Authority in the South East – Hybrid – Full Time

Venn Group is working with a well-regarded local authority in the South East in their search for a Head of Democratic Services on a locum basis for an initial 3-month contract.

Details:

Job Title: Head of Democratic Services
Hourly Rate: £55 to £63 umbrella per hour (flexible for the right candidate)
Length of Contract: 3 months initially with high possibility for extension
Working Pattern: Full-time – 37 hours per week
Location: Local Authority in the South East
Office attendance: One day per week preferred – will consider more remote

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Provide high-level strategic and operational guidance to internal and external stakeholders
• Collaborate with senior managers to shape future strategies, business plans, budgets, and resource allocation
• Manage complex and high-priority issues, ensuring effective and timely resolution
• Lead and influence teams by modelling the local authority’s values
• Drive service improvements and new approaches across the democratic services function
• Performance manage, develop, and motivate teams across the service

Preferred experience:

• Strong leadership background within democratic or local government services
• Proven ability to advise at senior levels and manage complex, escalated issues
• Experience in strategic planning and high-level service delivery
• Track record of performance management and leading diverse teams in a political environment
