Job Description - Head of Elective Access - 6 Month FTC

Interim Head of Elective Access - Band 8c
Location: London NHS Trust
Contract: 6 Months Fixed Term Contract
Hours: Full-time
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £80-95k

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Interim Head of Elective Access to join a leading London NHS Trust for a 6-month assignment. This pivotal leadership role will be instrumental in delivering high-quality access performance across both Elective RTT and Cancer pathways.

About the Role

As the Interim Head of Elective Access, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the management of all elective access targets, including Referral to Treatment (RTT) and Cancer performance. You will work closely with clinical, operational, and performance teams to ensure accurate, timely, and insightful reporting, while driving service improvements across pathways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the delivery of RTT and Cancer access standards Trust-wide.
  • Produce and present weekly performance data reports with clear analysis, narrative, and action plans.
  • Support divisions in improving data quality, patient tracking, and waiting list management.
  • Develop and embed best practices in elective access processes and policies.
  • Act as the Trust’s RTT subject matter expert and escalation point for access-related queries.
  • Engage confidently with executive teams, NHS England/Improvement, and ICS partners.

Essential Experience

  • Proven track record in delivering and improving RTT performance in an NHS acute setting.
  • Strong experience managing Cancer pathways and associated reporting requirements.
  • Expertise in data reporting and analytics, with the ability to produce high-quality reports under tight deadlines.
  • Effective leadership and stakeholder management at senior levels.
  • In-depth knowledge of NHS access standards, patient tracking systems (PTLs), and relevant statutory guidance.
