Job Description - Health & Safety Adviser

Health & Safety Advisor
  • Location: 5 estates across central London / hybrid working
  • Job Type: 6 months temp initially - full time hours
  • £250 - £300 per day PAYE (you can also be paid via an Umbrella Company).
  • Public Sector/ Housing

We are seeking a dedicated Health & Safety Advisor to join our London Authorities Community & Children’s Services department. This role is crucial for ensuring the effective management of health and safety within the department, providing expert advice and support to the Departmental Leadership Team (DLT). The ideal candidate will be proactive in designing and implementing safety procedures and policies, whilst ensuring compliance with current legislation.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Provide competent, business-focused health and safety advice, monitor compliance, and report any concerns or gaps to the Leadership Team.
  • Lead the design and support the implementation of local business-focused safety procedures and policies.
  • Conduct audits, gap assessments, and monitoring to ensure compliance with health & safety regulations.
  • Supporting the Digitisation of Fire Safety Assessments
  • Prepare and deliver various forms of training, from toolbox talks to formal sessions, and manage health & safety training records.
  • Maintain a comprehensive repository of health & safety documentation and records.
  • Monitor and review reports from the Corporate Incident reporting line, ensuring effective follow-up and departmental investigations.
  • Act as the first point of contact for all health and safety matters within the department, liaising with external parties like the London Fire Brigade and Health & Safety Executive.
  • Provide practical advice on key safety risks such as fire safety, manual handling, and more.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of health and safety risks and the management of
  • Detailed knowledge of health and safety legislation and its implementation within a business context.
  • NEBOSH required as a minimum
  • Experience of conducting Fire Risk Assessments and interpreting data from audits
  • Experience in identifying and solving health and safety risks, preferably within a Housing, Community, or Property Services environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to deliver effective training and detailed reports.
