Job Description - HLTA

This School is a specialist provision that supports young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and communication difficulties. They are proud to provide a nurturing, inclusive, and trauma-informed environment where pupils can re-engage with learning and thrive both academically and socially.

The School are seeking a confident and compassionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their dedicated team and help deliver high-quality support across the curriculum.

Key responsibilities

The HLTA will support students at the KS3 Therapeutic Centre and KS4 Alternative Provision by:

  • Planning and Delivering Science, numeracy, literacy and PSHE interventions tailored to students’ needs.
  • Support and lead planned lessons under the guidance of teaching staff

  • Deliver targeted interventions and small group sessions in core subjects and life skills Maths, Science

  • Provide 1:1 support for pupils with EHCPs, tailoring learning to individual needs

  • Use positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques to support emotional regulation

  • Assist with curriculum planning and classroom preparation

  • Collaborate with SENCOs, therapists, and parents/carers to ensure consistent pupil support

  • Promote an inclusive, respectful, and safe classroom environment

You Will Need To Have:
  • Training in Team Teach, positive behaviour support, or trauma-informed approaches.

  • Knowledge of restorative practices and therapeutic interventions.

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH

  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive, child-centred approach

  • The ability to work flexibly and independently across different age groups and needs

  • A calm and patient attitude, with strong behaviour management skills
