Housing & Income Officer

Karter Thomas is currently working with a client based in Crawley to recruit an experienced Housing & Income Officer on a 3-month interim basis.

This is a housing management role with a strong focus on income management and arrears recovery. The successful candidate will be required to deliver a high-quality housing service, ensuring tenancies are sustained and income is maximised.

• Manage tenancy terminations and ensure void properties are turned around and re-let efficiently.

• Support tenants to sustain their tenancies through proactive income management including:

  • Rent account monitoring

  • Liaison with Housing Benefit, DWP, and Jobcentre Plus

  • Providing income maximisation advice, debt counselling, and referrals to specialist agencies

• Set up new rent accounts and assist tenants with rent payments from the start of their tenancy.

• Conduct home visits and telephone outreach, and where necessary, take legal recovery action including court representation.

• Monitor occupancy to prevent illegal subletting and non-occupation.

• Carry out property and estate inspections, including communal areas and fire risk assessments.

• Handle tenancy changes including terminations, successions, mutual exchanges, and flexible tenancy renewals.

• Respond to safeguarding concerns and escalate appropriately in line with organisational procedures.

• Previous experience in a similar housing management or income recovery role

• A valid Basic DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)

• Access to your own vehicle and ability to travel locally
