Job Description - Housing Officer

?? We’re hiring! – Housing Officer (Income Management Focus)
?? £18.19 PAYE / £20.33 LTD per hour
?? Crawley (Office-based with travel in the local area)
?? Full-time – 37 hours per week
?? Initial 3-month contract
I'm working with a local authority client in the Crawley area who are looking for an experienced Housing Officer to join their team on a temporary basis. This role is primarily focused on income collection and arrears management, helping tenants sustain their tenancies and supporting financial wellbeing.
Key responsibilities:

Monitoring rent accounts and managing rent arrears
Liaising with Housing Benefit, DWP, and Jobcentre Plus
Offering income maximisation and budgeting advice
Conducting home visits and phone interventions with tenants
Preparing documentation for court proceedings and attending hearings when necessary
Assisting with the set-up of new rent accounts and payment plans

The ideal candidate will have:

A strong background in income management or arrears recovery
Experience working with vulnerable tenants to prevent eviction
Knowledge of housing benefit systems and tenancy law
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Previous experience within a local authority or social housing setting
