Are you passionate about preventing homelessness and maximizing housing choices for individuals and families? Join our team as a Housing Solutions Officer and provide vital support to those in need.

About the Role

You'll assess, advise, and assist people with their housing and related support needs, playing a crucial role in preventing homelessness and expanding housing options. You'll ensure the Council meets its statutory duties under relevant legislation.

Hours: 37 hours (Monday-Friday)

Pay grade: £16.63-£17.59 per hour

Length of contract: 2 months

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess Housing Needs: Conduct thorough assessments of housing, social, support, and medical needs, including interviews, home visits, and liaison with agencies.
  • Provide Expert Advice: Be a primary contact for advice on homelessness, accommodation, disrepair, money management (including benefits), and housing rights, making appropriate referrals.
  • Manage Homelessness Casework: Investigate applications from those homeless or threatened with homelessness, handling complex cases and arranging temporary accommodation as needed.
  • Devise Proactive Solutions: Develop creative solutions to housing problems, liaising with private landlords and other third parties to prevent homelessness.
  • Facilitate Accommodation: Help customers secure housing in both private and public sectors, assisting with applications and promoting relevant schemes.
  • Support Supervision: Share supervisory duties for the Housing Solutions Assistant.
  • Conduct Out-of-Office Engagements: Perform home/hospital visits and participate in prison-based homelessness prevention assessments.
  • Respond to Emergencies: Provide emergency advice and arrange temporary accommodation outside of normal hours.
  • Maintain Knowledge & Policy: Stay updated on housing legislation, contribute to policy development, and represent the Authority in inter-agency discussions.
  • Collaborate as a Team: Work effectively within the team to achieve performance targets.

About You

You're an empathetic, organized, and proactive problem-solver with a strong grasp of housing legislation. You have excellent communication skills, can manage complex cases, and build rapport with diverse individuals.

Requirements

  • Driving License
  • Proven experience in housing advice or homelessness prevention.
  • Strong understanding of housing legislation, especially the Housing (Wales) Act 2014.
  • Ability to assess complex needs and find solutions.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and casework management skills.
  • Proficiency in record-keeping.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to participate in out-of-hours rotas and conduct off-site visits.
