Job Description - HR Advisor

HR Advisor
  • Organisation: Oldham Council
  • Job Type: Initial 4-month Temporary Contract
  • Pay Rate: £16.40 - £17.76 per hour

Join Oldham Council as an HR Advisor and become a pivotal part of #TeamOldham. This role offers the opportunity to provide essential HR support and advice across various departments, ensuring alignment with the Council's Workforce Strategy and compliance with relevant legislation.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Serve as the first point of contact for managers across Oldham Council, offering first-line advice on a broad range of HR enquiries.
  • Maintain effective customer relationships by providing proactive and timely HR advice, supporting management to take appropriate actions.
  • Manage a professional caseload efficiently, ensuring work is organised, prioritised, and delivered to high standards.
  • Advise on and guide the implementation of policies including attendance improvement, grievance resolution, performance management, disciplinary matters, recruitment, retention, and organisational changes.
  • Log and record casework outcomes to aid future service evaluation and improvement.
  • Attend Hearings to support managers and participate in strategy meetings to address safeguarding concerns.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in HR advisory roles, preferably within a public sector, council, or unionised environment.
  • Strong understanding of HR policies and procedures and their application within a diverse organisational context.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of managing relationships across various levels of an organisation.
  • Ability to handle a caseload effectively, with strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Experience in handling disciplinary and grievance cases, recruitment processes, and organisational restructuring.
  • Knowledge of job evaluation techniques and experience in participating in related exercises.
