Syli - pronounced SOO-Lee - supports mission-driven journalism in service of informed audiences around the world. We have a specific focus on climate activities. We are a recently established non-profit (UK community interest company).
We want to see a world in which everyone has access to equitable, trustworthy and accurate information.
We support and advance mission-driven journalism by fostering new, forward-looking concepts and identifying sustainable financial models for journalism. We are creating a healthier, more sustainable media ecosystem for better informed global audiences who are empowered to take action for the benefit of all people, communities and the planet.
We are currently looking for an Impact Specialist. Drawing on journalism and documentary traditions, the Impact Specialist is a hands-on role dedicated to turning our research into tangible change. You will work directly across Syli brands and respective newsroom partners and fellows to design, facilitate and scale practical impact activities - including Theory of Change clinics, tracking the results of partner reporting, and developing "story-to-life" case studies. You are not just measuring impact; you are actively producing it by building the practical pathways that allow Syli’s work to reach policy circles, community groups, and wider public discourse.
In this role, you will work closely with the Syli Programmes Manager by handling the tactical delivery of impact activities. This involves managing impact trackers, coordinating follow-up interviews with grantees, and ensuring that the human stories behind our work are captured effectively. You act as the vital link between the raw data gathered by the researcher and the strategic goals of the organisation, ensuring our impact is as visible as it is measurable.
The position is for an immediate start and is a hybrid role, primarily remote but with in-person days in London up to eight times a month. This position is offered as a full time staff position in the UK. Candidates must already live in the UK and have the right to work in the UK.You will need to ensure you have access to a suitable professional and confidential environment with a reliable internet connection to carry out your duties. Some international travel will be required.
The position is full time over Monday to Friday. This is a fixed term contract ending on 31 December 2026. However, pending securing the required funding, we intend for this to become a multi-year programme.
Responsibilities will include:
Lead the refinement and effective delivery of impact strategy, policy, and measurement approaches across Syli initiatives, including climateXchange and Impact Lab.
Lead engagement with research partners on defined priority research questions, which include climate and mission-driven journalism, and methodologies.
Lead engagement with academic partners and mentors to foster and engage on Syli initiatives, primarily The Impact Lab, but also climateXchange.
Own and quality-assure monitoring tools measuring programme impact, audience knowledge change, reach, and engagement.
Produce high-quality impact reports for funders and partners, clearly articulating outcomes, learning, and improvement areas.
Coordinate external evaluation activities and ensure learning is embedded into future planning and delivery.
The pay for this role is £42,000 per year based on 35 hours per week.
We have identified the range of qualifications, knowledge, and experience we think you’ll need for this role and a background in research or impact measurement in sustainability interventions or media development is essential.
Self-starter who can work independently whilst also collaborating with other team members.
Experience working for or in partnership with an international non-profit organisation.
Able to develop monitoring and evaluation frameworks that incorporate KPIs.
Can analyse, interpret, and communicate data for a range of different audiences in different formats.
Passion for climate reporting, additional languages, and experience with Slack and Google Workspace are beneficial.
Excited to make a difference in climate journalism and communications and lead the way in impact measurement.
If this sounds like you, or if you feel that you have what is needed to succeed in this role but your background is a little different from above, we’d love to hear from you.
