Job Title: Inquiries and Decisions Officer
Location: 222 Upper Street, London Borough of Islington
Rate: £35 per hour
Contract Type: Temporary (04/08/2025 - 27/10/2025)
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday (09:00 - 17:00)
IR35 Status: Inside IR35

About the Role:
The London Borough of Islington is seeking experienced Inquiries and Decisions Officers to support increased workload in their Homelessness Services team. You will play a critical role in delivering high-quality homelessness assessments, inquiries, and decisions in line with statutory responsibilities and the spirit of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake assessments and make main duty decisions for both singles and families under homelessness legislation.

  • Help reduce the Council's backlog of homelessness decisions.

  • Deliver a trauma-informed, empathetic service with the customer at the heart of all interactions.

  • Liaise effectively with internal services (e.g. Adult Social Care, Children's Services, MARAC, DSM) and external agencies.

  • Support vulnerable groups including rough sleepers, asylum seekers, refugees, domestic abuse survivors, LGBTQ+ individuals, and care leavers.

  • Ensure safeguarding responsibilities are fully met for adults and children at risk.

  • Identify and report potential housing fraud in collaboration with the Housing Investigation Team.

  • Provide detailed information for councillor enquiries, complaints, and LGSCO investigations.

  • Conduct periodic home visits as part of the enquiry process.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in homelessness legislation and casework.

  • Strong communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and safeguarding practices.

  • Willingness to attend meetings, training sessions, and occasional home visits.
