An ambitious, private equity-backed business in the energy sector is seeking an experienced Interim Finance Director to join on a 6-month fixed-term contract. This is a critical role reporting to the CFO, supporting a transformative growth agenda, whilst taking a hands-on role to oversee the finance department.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially focused finance leader who thrives in fast-paced, change-oriented environments. With brilliant stakeholder management and interest (ideally prior experience) in M&A.

About the Role:
As the CFO’s trusted deputy, you’ll take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, lead commercial finance initiatives, and support strategic decision-making across the business. You’ll also manage and develop two direct reports: the Financial Controller and the FP&A Manager.

Your focus will be on improving financial visibility, enabling performance, and helping to drive value creation for both internal stakeholders and private equity investors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as second-in-command to the CFO, taking a hands-on leadership role across all finance activities
• Directly manage, coach & develop the Financial Controller and FP&A Manager
• Lead commercial finance processes including budgeting, forecasting/reforecasting, KPI tracking, and strategic planning
• Lead on the Q4 interim audit and year-end process
• Partner closely with commercial and operational teams to influence business performance
• Drive improvements in financial reporting, controls, and process efficiency
• Take an active involvement in automating processes and controls – further supporting on the recent new system integration
• Support board reporting, investor updates, and private equity engagement
• Play a key role in supporting the CFO in delivering the business's value creation plan

About You:

• Experienced Finance Director or senior finance leader with a background in PE-backed or agile, commercial environments
• Strong commercial acumen and a track record of driving business performance through finance
• Hands-on leadership style with experience managing high-performing finance teams
• Able to balance strategic thinking with day-to-day operational oversight
• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Comfortable in a transformation environment and able to hit the ground running
