• Location: Bexleyheath (Hybrid - 2 days in office per week, flexible)

  PAYE: £32.47 per hour

  Limited/Umbrella: £43.16 per hour

Our local authority client seeks a Principal Auditor to join the team and support the Head of Assurance in delivering the Internal Audit and Counter Fraud Plans. This role is ideal for someone with a background in public sector auditing, offering a varied portfolio that includes audit reviews, fraud investigations, contract reviews, and project management.

• Direction: Assist the Head of Assurance in providing assurance on the effectiveness of the Council’s systems of internal control, risk management, and governance processes. Collaborate with senior management to agree on improvements to Council operations.
• Implementation: Research, plan, and prepare draft terms of reference for audit assignments. Plan and conduct audit work efficiently and effectively, including follow-up reviews.
• Organisational Control and Development: Address risks identified by Services, ensuring controls are effective and working in conjunction with the management team. Develop clear communication channels with clients during audit engagements and contribute to discussions of findings with senior leaders.
• Personal Effectiveness: Manage personal workload effectively, stay informed of relevant legislation and regulations, and take responsibility for own professional development.

• Qualifications: ACA, ACCA, CIA, or equivalent (part-qualified candidates considered if actively pursuing exams).
• Experience in public sector auditing is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to undertake data analysis and data mining.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships.
• Knowledge of Global Internal Auditing Standards and relevant legislation and regulations.
