Job Description - Interim Project Accountant

Interim assignment

Job Purpose:
An opportunity to work for a successful service based business as an experienced Interim Project Accountant. The contract will support a high-priority reconciliations project, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data across key accounts. The role will focus on identifying and resolving discrepancies, improving processes, and ensuring that reconciliations are complete, timely, and auditable.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead or support the delivery of a targeted account reconciliation project, ensuring accurate alignment between ledgers, sub-ledgers, and external data sources.
Perform detailed reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, control accounts, and legacy items, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
Work collaboratively with finance and operational teams to trace transactions, correct historical misstatements, and implement sustainable reconciliation processes.
Document findings and reconciliation procedures clearly for audit and review purposes.
Assist in the development of improved controls and best practice reconciliation templates or tools.
Provide regular project updates to stakeholders, including risks, timelines, and progress.

Key Skills and Experience:

Qualified or part-qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or qualified by experience.
Proven experience in a reconciliations-focused finance project, ideally in an interim or transformation role.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and balance sheet controls.
High level of Excel proficiency and experience working with financial systems
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and deliver against tight deadlines.
