Internal Communication and Engagement Officer

Positive Employment is currently recruiting for an Internal Communication and Engagement Officer for our client a local government organisation in Brent, London.

The successful candidate will be communicating directly with a wide range of stakeholders, including the Chief Executive.

They will lead on developing and delivering cross-cutting, audience-led communications and engagement plans which support the borough plan priorities and other corporate objectives.

This role is a 3 month contract with the possibility to extend. The role will be conducted via hybrid working.

Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:

• Proactively manage the council’s internal communications and engagement portfolio, ensuring high quality and effective coordination of approaches.
• To be a source of expertise to develop and improve staff capability of communication and engagement skills, tools and techniques within the Transformation Service and across the organisation.
• Devise, develop and oversee cross-cutting, audience-led communications and employee engagement plans that support the objectives in the Borough and Corporate Plans.
• Support the Building a Better Brent programme with appropriate communication strategies that engage with employees and deliver the outcomes required. This will include developing and implementing plans to support an extensive programme of digital transformation and work to embed new and innovative ways of working across the organisation.
• Manage all corporate internal communications, supporting colleagues at all levels, and enabling colleagues in individual departments to produce their own service-based internal communications work to corporate standards.
• Manage, promote and constantly evaluate and improve Brent’s internal communications channels and engagement approaches.
• Lead and manage virtual teams to develop and deliver innovative internal communications strategies which are effective, demonstrate value for money and positive behaviour change, and drive increases in employees’ satisfaction.
• Undertake a wide range of creative work across various audience led subject areas using the full suite of internal communications techniques including (but not exclusively): traditional and social media, printed materials, events, briefings and communications, advertising, marketing techniques, infographics, video and digital communications.
• Provide, benchmark and improve engagement projects targeted at line managers, including heads of service and other senior managers.
• When appropriate, to liaise with the editors of council-controlled external channels to supply content within deadline.
• Advise colleagues in relevant service areas to ensure that all materials produced are in compliance with the 1988 Local Government Act on publicity.

Personal Requirements:

• A proven track record of working successfully in communications, public relations or employee engagement.
• Knowledge of effective employee engagement, learning and development and culture change theories and practices.
• Knowledge and a good understanding of the law as it applies to local government communication.
• An expert understanding of issues relating to communication and employee engagement within local government.

Working Hours: 36hrs / 9:00am - 17:00pm / Monday to Friday

Pay:£34.24 per hr

Please note this role is within the scope of IR35.
