Job Description - Intervention Teacher

Primary Intervention Teacher | Thornton Heath, CR7 | £162 - £252 per day (Equivalent to MPS/UPS) | Full-time, Long-term, Temp-to-Perm | September 2025 Start

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Primary Intervention Teacher in a highly-regarded 'Good' rated Primary School located in Thornton Heath, Croydon (CR7). This school serves a vibrant, diverse South London community and is known for its supportive leadership and focus on staff development, particularly for those passionate about targeted support. The position, starting in September 2025, is offered on a long-term basis with a view to becoming permanent.

The school is easily accessible from areas including Croydon, Lambeth, Bromley, Sutton, and nearby boroughs.

What to Expect:

  • A long-term teaching position with strong potential for permanent employment focused on impactful intervention.
  • Competitive daily pay rate aligned with the Main Pay Scale (MPS/UPS).
  • A nurturing and collaborative team environment, with inclusive social gatherings, where your expertise in targeted support will be highly valued.
  • Encouraged trial opportunities to ensure the role is the right fit.
  • A manageable workload with a primary focus on small group and one-to-one instruction; less emphasis on whole-class marking.
  • Comprehensive and inclusive CPD opportunities (including safeguarding, SEND, behaviour training), often scheduled on inset days, with a focus on intervention strategies and progress tracking.
  • The chance to contribute directly to the school's ongoing curriculum development and intervention programmes.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver targeted, high-impact intervention lessons for small groups and individual pupils from Early Years (Reception) up to Year 2, focusing on areas such as literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development.
  • Diligently assess, monitor, and report on individual pupil progress within intervention groups, adapting teaching methods to specific learning needs (e.g., EAL, SEND).
  • Collaborate closely with class teachers to identify pupils requiring support, share progress, and ensure a cohesive approach to learning.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and orderly learning environment conducive to focused intervention.
  • Build strong working relationships and communicate proactively with parents, carers, and colleagues regarding pupil progress and strategies.
  • Potentially undertake middle leadership duties related to leading intervention programmes or specific pupil progress initiatives (dependent on experience and school need).

About You:

  • You must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Possess recent and successful teaching experience within the EYFS or Key Stage 1 phase, with a proven track record in delivering effective interventions.
  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge of the EYFS and National Curriculums, alongside a deep understanding of common barriers to learning and effective intervention strategies.
  • Exhibit strong skills in diagnostic assessment and adapting teaching to individual pupil needs.
  • Dedicated to upholding safeguarding standards and promoting child welfare.

Quick Apply Process:

  1. Send your CV.
  2. Speak with our consultant, Jack.
  3. Complete compliance checks.
  4. Visit the school (optional trial day encouraged).
  5. Start your new role!
