Job Description - IT Support Engineer

Kinect Recruitment is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic IT Support Engineer to join a growing IT team based in Harrogate. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career IT professional with at least 12 months of hands-on experience in IT support, helpdesk operations, or technical troubleshooting.

You will play a key role in supporting day-to-day IT operations, assisting with hardware and software setups, and contributing to broader IT projects. The role offers hands-on experience and development across a broad IT environment, with the opportunity to build on your existing skills and grow within the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line IT support for desktops, laptops, printers, and basic networking issues

  • Log, manage, and resolve IT service tickets using an internal ticketing system

  • Assist with new employee setups: hardware provisioning, software installation, user access, and onboarding

  • Perform basic hardware installations, diagnostics, and repairs

  • Support IT infrastructure tasks including network patching, cabling, backups, and system health checks

  • Help maintain accurate IT documentation and inventory records

  • Shadow senior engineers to gain exposure to IT security practices and infrastructure management

  • Show interest in pursuing relevant IT certifications or further training

Working Pattern

  • Full-time, on-site initially

  • Hybrid working model available after probation period

  • Occasional out-of-hours support required during major IT implementations or scheduled service windows


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a helpdesk, IT support, or technician role

  • Good knowledge of Windows 10/11, Office 365/Google Workspace, and basic networking

  • Hands-on experience with hardware builds, setup, and troubleshooting

  • Strong communication skills and a solution-focused approach

  • Eagerness to develop a long-term career in IT

Desirable Skills

  • Exposure to Active Directory, asset management tools, or basic scripting

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks or certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, Cisco CyberOps)

  • Knowledge of ITIL, ISO 27001, or IT security standards

  • Interest in server environments (Windows/Linux), remote support tools, and software deployment
