Java Developer

MERITUS Talent are working with one the most well known aerospace conglomerates globally, for the recruitment of a Java Developer to join their Defence & Space team into their Portsmouth office. The role is for an initial 6-12 month assignment, paying £55 per hour via umbrella, and ideally looking for the right person to hold an active SC clearance.

A leading organisation in the aerospace and space systems sector is looking for an experienced Java Developer to join a 7-person Scrum team. The project involves building management systems for a new satellite programme. You'll be contributing across the full software development lifecycle - from design and development to testing - in a modern, Agile environment with a strong focus on microservices and automation.

• Design, develop and test features as part of a collaborative Scrum team

• Take part in sprint planning and task estimation

• Contribute to technical discussions and architectural design (UML)

• Support CI/CD processes and automated testing frameworks

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code

• Work closely with internal and external stakeholders

• Java (version 8+)

• Spring Boot and Spring Framework (inc. Hibernate)

• RESTful APIs over HTTPS

• Microservices and distributed systems

• Agile development (Scrum)

• CI/CD pipelines

• Git and Jira (or similar tools)

• UML or SysML using Enterprise Architect or equivalent

• Strong communication and teamwork skills

• Proactive mindset and ability to work independently
