Job Description - KS1/KS2 Teaching Assistant - Join Our Team

Primary Teaching Assistant
  • Location: Birmingham
  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Salary: Competitive, based on experience
  • Start Date: September 2025

If you’ve ever balanced a phonics session, a scraped knee, and a spontaneous “show and tell” involving a snail—all before morning break—you already understand the magic (and mayhem) of being a Teaching Assistant.

We’re looking for a calm, caring, and committed Primary Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive and welcoming school community in Birmingham this September. This is a fantastic opportunity to support pupils—especially those with Special Educational Needs (SEN)—and help them grow both academically and emotionally in a nurturing environment.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging, inclusive, and differentiated lessons.
  • Provide targeted support to pupils with SEN, including autism, ADHD, and speech and language needs—both 1:1 and in small groups.
  • Help maintain a positive, structured, and stimulating classroom environment where every child feels safe and supported.
  • Assist with classroom organisation, preparing learning materials, and creating engaging displays that celebrate pupil progress.
  • Encourage independence, resilience, and confidence in learners—whether that’s mastering a tricky maths concept or navigating the lunch queue.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, parents, and external professionals to ensure each child’s individual needs are met.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience working with children in a school or similar setting.
  • A strong understanding of how to support children with SEN in a primary classroom.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach—especially when things don’t go to plan.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills—you’ll be a key part of a close-knit team.
  • A proactive attitude and a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning) is desirable but not essential.
Benefits:
  • A warm, welcoming, and inclusive school community where staff wellbeing matters.
  • A supportive team of experienced teachers and SEN professionals who value your input.
  • Ongoing training and professional development tailored to your interests and career goals.
  • A varied and fulfilling role where no two days are the same—and every day brings a new story.
  • The chance to make a genuine, lasting difference in the lives of children who need it most.
How to Apply:

If you’re ready to bring your energy, empathy, and enthusiasm to a role that truly matters, we’d love to hear from you. Please send your CV and a short cover letter explaining why you’re the right fit for this Primary Teaching Assistant role.

We look forward to welcoming a new member to our team and working together to help every child thrive.
