Job Description - Learning Mentor

Learning Support Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting young people who face barriers to education? Do you have experience working with pupils who have special educational needs or behavioural challenges? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children and help them achieve their potential?

If you answered yes to these questions, then you might be the perfect candidate for the role of learning support assistant at our pupil referral unit.

As a learning support assistant at our PRU, you will work closely with teachers and other staff to provide individualised support for pupils with a range of needs, such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, mental health issues, or trauma. You will assist pupils with their learning activities, behaviour management, and personal development. You will also help to create a safe and positive atmosphere in the classroom and around the school.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A relevant qualification in education, childcare, or social care (e.g. NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools)
  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational or care setting
  • A good understanding of the needs and challenges of pupils who attend PRUs
  • A positive and flexible attitude, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
