The Role

A SEN/SEMH school in Chorley is seeking a skilled Learning Mentor to work with children and young people who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, often alongside autism, ADHD, or speech and language difficulties. The role involves:

  • Providing daily 1:1 and small-group mentoring for pupils who struggle with engagement, attendance or behaviour.

  • De-escalating incidents calmly using restorative and trauma-informed approaches.

  • Liaising with teachers, parents/carers and external agencies to ensure consistent support.

  • Recording and tracking progress to celebrate improvements and inform next steps.

Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or additional needs (school, PRU, youth work, or residential care settings).

  • Strong interpersonal and behaviour-management skills with a calm, consistent approach.

  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships quickly.

  • Flexibility to adapt to different age groups and needs.

  • A willingness to undertake Team Teach or equivalent training (advantageous if already trained).

What We Offer

  • Ongoing CPD including behaviour management and trauma-informed practice.

  • A dedicated consultant providing full support throughout placements.

  • Opportunities for long-term roles or progression into pastoral and HLTA positions.
