Job Description - Legal and Investigations Officer

Your new company
You will be working for a Public Sector Organisation based in Belfast. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful change through legal advice, investigations, and policy development.


Your new role
As a Solicitor within the Legal and Investigations Department, you will play a key role in delivering a client-focused service. You will manage enquiries, provide legal advice, attend court and tribunals, and contribute to investigations and policy advice to government.
Key Responsibilities
*Respond promptly and effectively to client enquiries.
*Provide legal advice and guidance.
*Maintain accurate and confidential records on the case management system.
*Attend meetings, court hearings, and tribunals as required.
*Participate in investigations and service reviews.
*Contribute to policy and strategic advice to government.
*Ensure compliance with GDPR, FOI, and internal documentation standards.
*Collaborate with colleagues to meet departmental objectives.

What you'll need to succeed
Essential Criteria

*Applicants must be a Solicitor who currently holds a practising certificate in the jurisdiction of Northern Ireland and possess at least 1 year's post qualification experience.
*Hold a minimum 2:2 honours degree in law;
*Possess practical experience in the provision of legal and other advice and support to clients directly;
*Be able to demonstrate how you have communicated confidently, clearly and persuasively, both orally and in writing, to both legal and non-legal audiences;
*Experience of recording and maintaining sensitive records on information systems and possess a high degree of computer literacy and
*Have the ability to work as a part of a team.
Desirable Criteria:
*Be able to demonstrate knowledge and expertise of law, practice and policy issues relating to children and young people;
*Possess experience of providing legal advice to children and young people as clients;
*Investigative experience, preferably in a legal context.
