Locum Company and Governance Lawyer

Locum Governance & Company Solicitor – Up to £65 per hour (umbrella) – 3+ months

Venn Group’s specialist legal team is currently working with a Local Authority seeking a Locum Solicitor with strong governance, company law, and public sector experience to lead a key review project.

Role Overview:
• Position: Locum Governance & Company Solicitor
• Location: Remote working with first day attendance
• Contract Length: Initial 6 months, with possibility of extension
• Rate: Up to £65 per hour (umbrella)
• Hours: Full time (compressed working considered)

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead a full review of Local Authority Trading Companies (LATCOs) in partnership with senior leadership and produce a comprehensive report
• Manage company secretarial duties, including maintaining statutory registers and ensuring compliance with Articles of Association
• Provide training to new directors on public sector governance
• Offer advice on insolvency matters including strike-offs and winding down of companies
• Support with ad-hoc company secretarial queries
• Desirable (not essential): Experience in charity law to support with occasional governance questions

Requirements:
• Qualified Solicitor (or equivalent)
• Proven experience working in or alongside the public sector in a company secretarial or governance capacity
• Strong understanding of company law and public sector governance frameworks
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders
