Job Description - Locum Housing Lawyer

Locum Housing Lawyer
  • Contract Duration: 6 months
  • Location: Hybrid (Flexible with minimum office attendance)
  • Job Type: Contract
  • Hourly Rate: £50 - £65 per hour

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Housing Lawyer to join our Client's team on a 6-month contract. This role is ideal for professionals with a background in housing law, looking to contribute their expertise to a dynamic legal services team. The successful candidate will handle a variety of housing law matters, including court representations, primarily at County Court.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Manage a caseload involving housing possession matters related to both Assured Shorthold and Secure Tenancies, as well as disrepair claims and other housing litigation matters.
  • Provide clear and accurate legal advice to clients.
  • Draft and prepare legal documents pertinent to housing law.
  • Represent the organisation in court, particularly for hearings at County Court, which typically occur on Mondays.
  • Work collaboratively with the Housing Team, attending the office at least once every three weeks on a Monday, with the flexibility to come in more frequently if desired.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Qualified solicitor, barrister, or legal executive with demonstrable experience in housing law.
  • Experience working within a local authority or similar setting is highly advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of current housing legislation and case law.
  • Excellent advocacy, negotiation, and drafting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines.
  • Practical and client-focused approach to legal problem solving.
