Job Description - Management Accountant - FTC

An established and forward-thinking business based in Hertford is seeking a highly motivated Management Accountant on a 9 month contract to join its finance function. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional looking to take ownership of month-end reporting, contribute to process improvement, and support strategic business decisions.

You’ll be working closely with the Finance Director and wider finance team to produce accurate and insightful management accounts, support audits, and assist in ongoing analysis activities. The company offers a collaborative working environment with impressive offices in a convenient location.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare monthly management accounts for the business, including P&L, balance sheet, and variance analysis against budget and prior periods
Conduct reconciliations and provide commentary to support internal stakeholders
Support the year-end close process and liaise with external auditors
Review purchase and sales ledger activity and assist in preparing VAT returns
Handle internal and external finance-related queries in a professional and timely manner
Assist in managing stock levels and ensure finance processes align with operational needs
Maintain and improve process documentation and financial controls
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members as required
Participate in internal and external audits, preparing necessary reconciliations and reports
Engage in finance-related projects aimed at improving efficiency and business performance

Skills & Experience Required

Proven experience in a management accounting or similar finance role
Strong understanding of month-end processes, reconciliations, and variance analysis
Comfortable liaising with auditors and preparing year-end accounts
Advanced Excel skills, including data manipulation and reporting
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across departments
High attention to detail, with a proactive and analytical mindset
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines
