Market Attendant

• Pay Rate: T£12.21 per hr paye
• Location: Darwen Market, Blackburn and Darwen
• Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (2 - 3 months)
• Working Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday; 9:00am - 5:00pm (37 hours per week)

Blackburn and Darwen Council are looking for a Market Attendant to join our Growth & Development Team at Darwen Market for a temporary period of 2 - 3 months. This role involves a variety of tasks including cleaning, waste management, and assisting in security and customer service. The ideal candidate will be physically fit and capable of handling outdoor work and heavy lifting.

• Undertake cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, and cleaning surfaces, including windows and both public and trader toilets.
• Operate mechanical cleaning equipment like scrubbing/sweeping machines, high-pressure washers, and steam cleaners.
• Handle waste collection and operate waste compaction equipment, including separating materials for recycling.
• Assist in security matters, including unlocking and locking up the market and its surrounding external concourses.
• Serve as a first point of contact for customer or trader queries regarding the operation of the market.
• Carry out basic labouring duties and operate electrical/mechanical equipment necessary for the maintenance and servicing of the market.
• Work in various conditions, including cleaning in awkward spaces or at height using a platform lift.

• Physical fitness and ability to handle manual labor tasks.
• Experience in cleaning and waste management is preferred.
• Ability to operate mechanical cleaning and waste management equipment.
• Good customer service skills to handle queries from traders and the public.
• Capable of working independently and as part of a team.

• Full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided.
