Mechanical Compliance and Repair Surveyor
  • Hourly rate: £35-£40 per hour Umbrella
  • Location: Manchester
  • Job Type: Hybrid (office 2 days, WFH rest of the week)
  • Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Join Manchester City Council's Housing Services in the Neighbourhoods Directorate as a Mechanical Compliance and Repair Surveyor. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and compliance of mechanical systems within council homes, focusing on legionella and mechanical safety. The ideal candidate will have a background in Gas Engineering or experience with Heat Pump installation/repair, and surveying experience is desirable.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Provide technical regulatory knowledge and enforce relevant legislation to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of residents.
  • Develop and administer investigative procedures and regulatory protocols.
  • Offer advice and guidance on enforcing standards and regulating community activity.
  • Lead on the delivery of statutory enforcement obligations and liaise with other Council departments or relevant bodies.
  • Ensure all requests are dealt with within designated timescales and quality standards.
  • Provide high-level support to internal and external customers and stakeholders.
  • Maintain competence in subject matter specialism and adopt best practices.
  • Manage data quality, ensuring timely, accurate, and complete information recording.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Background in Gas Engineering or experience with Heat Pump installation/repair.
  • Surveying experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Legionella/mechanical safety-related qualification, e.g., HNC in Construction and the Built Environment.
  • Proven track record in a surveying role within housing.
  • Knowledge of public services and the legislative and policy context.
  • Experience in delivering high-quality services in a complex legionella & mechanical safety environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of current statutory, regulatory, and best practice requirements for legionella & mechanical safety.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car (mileage allowance provided).
