Role: Mechanical Engineer
Client; BAE Systems
Location: Cowes, Isle of Wight (3–4 days onsite per week)
Contract: 12 months+ | Inside IR35
Rate: £59/hr PAYE or £79.69/hr Umbrella
Security Clearance: SC + BPSS (must hold or be eligible)
Hours: 37 per week

Role Overview

BAE Systems Maritime Services is seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer to support its Radar Mechanical Engineering team. This role involves leading the development and delivery of complex mechanical solutions across radar systems, acting as a technical authority, and providing mentorship to engineers within the team.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, review, and approve mechanical engineering designs
Act as technical and design authority for radar mechanical systems
Define and document engineering standards and best practices
Provide technical direction and mentoring to junior engineers
Support estimation, planning, and requirement specification activities
Promote innovation and continuous improvement across programmes

Essential Skills and Experience

Extensive mechanical engineering experience within defence, aerospace, or related sectors
Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM discipline
Chartered Engineer (or working towards)
Strong understanding of systems engineering, compliance, and governance
Proven ability to lead, mentor, and influence in a multidisciplinary environment
Experience working with MOD standards and within secure environments
