Mynydd Iach Penderyn Project Officer

Location: Brecon

Salary: GRADE 7 £33,366 - £35,235

Hours: 25.9 hours per week

Fixed Term Contract - 31 March 2028

Closing Date: 2nd June 2025

The Role

The Project Officer will be employed by the BBNPA and work with the Mynydd Iach Penderyn Partnership (MIPP), its individual members and organisations including farmers, 3 1/2 days a week, to lead on administering and delivering the project in accordance with the Project Plan and budget. The project aims to build the Partnership’s capacity, and that of its constituent organisations, to collaborate to deliver nature recovery and networks, land use for net zero and sustainable agriculture on the Manor Penderyn Common, and to explore opportunities to extend this work into local environs.

Duties include convening and facilitating meetings and workshops, planning, tracking and evaluating project delivery and budgets, carrying out and commissioning project evaluation, developing further grant applications, liaising with expert organisations, letting contracts, drafting an integrated site management plan, keeping abreast of grant opportunities, the Sustainable Farming Scheme and relevant policy, and advising the MIPP.

You will need to be self-motivated with excellent communication and organisational skills and be able to work collaboratively. Knowledge of hill farming and commons grazing, the natural environment and a commitment to nature recovery and land use for net zero will be important for this role. You will be happy to work evenings and weekends as required within a flexible working pattern; spoken Welsh will be an advantage but is not essential.

Key Responsibilities

These will include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain an excellent, well-organised, written and stored record of all project activities.
  • Communicate clearly and on time with members of the Mynydd Iach Penderyn Partnership (MIPP) and all relevant stakeholders.
  • Convene and administer meetings and workshops, providing the agendas and ensuring minutes and action points are provided in a timely manner.
  • Investigate and arrange team site visits (one per year, two in total) including liaising with the host organisation (s), itinerary, travel and accommodation arrangements.
  • Profile, maintain and report on the quarterly project budget and adjustments therein, in liaison with the MIPP, including an end of financial year budget review.
  • Maintain and update the project risk assessment in liaison with the MIPP.
  • In liaison with the BBNPA Finance Team, ensure all procurement and spend is administered in accordance with BBNPA finance procedures and contract standing orders.
  • Liaise with the BBNPA and Dwr Cymru Welsh Water communications teams on any noteworthy public information to be provided.

Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a project officer or project administration role
  • Demonstrable experience of livestock farming and commons management
  • Demonstrable experience of keeping to specific timelines and delivering on objectives
  • Knowledge of document and data management
  • Experience of preparing documentation, such as reports for funders
  • Previous experience of budget management and reporting financial information
  • Experience of working collaboratively and effectively in a team
  • Experience of maintaining project plans, organising meetings, and taking notes/minutes
  • Experience of planning and organising one’s own work
  • Experience of working collaboratively across teams
  • Good written and oral communication skills and experience of using a variety of communication methods.
  • Experienced user of IT including use of Microsoft applications, particularly Word, Excel,
  • MS Teams, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to solve problems, using information from a variety of sources to aid analysis and make timely decisions
  • Have an innovative approach to change and challenges, and the drive to ensure that a high-quality service is provided
  • Ability to deal with multiple tasks in parallel and sharing knowledge appropriately.
  • Welsh Language Level 0
