Job Description - Neighbourhood Officer

We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Neighbourhood Officer in Barnsley. This role is a vital role in delivering a visible, proactive, and customer-focused tenancy and estate management service that strengthens our communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a responsive neighbourhood management service that supports tenancy sustainment and promotes community cohesion.

  • Deliver a highly visible and practical tenancy and estate management service, ensuring customer needs are met.

  • Address and escalate tenancy breaches, including anti-social behaviour, using support or enforcement interventions.

  • Manage void properties efficiently, ensuring prompt lettings in line with performance targets.

  • Conduct welcome visits to new tenants, clearly communicating tenancy obligations and offering support.

  • Identify customer vulnerabilities, including safeguarding concerns, and take appropriate action.

  • Support the operation of the Housing Waiting List and Lettings Policy to ensure effective use of housing stock.

  • Engage with community groups to help identify and deliver local priorities.

  • Coordinate and refer tenants to internal and external support services as appropriate.

  • Support environmental upkeep through inspections, referrals, and community clean-up events.

  • Report and follow up on repairs and contribute to multi-agency meetings to share local intelligence.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • NVQ Level 3 / BTEC National Certificate or equivalent, or relevant experience with transferable skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and colleagues.

  • Proven commitment to delivering customer-focused and responsive services.

  • Experience in social housing, particularly estate and tenancy management or community safety.

  • Ability to use initiative, manage time effectively, and meet performance targets and deadlines.
