Job Description - Outreach Worker

Make a real difference by supporting people at risk of fuel poverty through advice, practical support, and small home energy improvements. Training provided – you just need great people skills and the right background (see below)

This charity delivers a vital home energy support service, helping individuals manage their energy use and bills. Full training will be provided to set you up for success in the role.

What you'll be doing:
  • Offering advice and practical support to help people save energy and manage their bills
  • Installing small energy-saving measures, such as low-energy light bulbs and draught-proofing
  • Supporting clients with switching or changing bills to save money
  • Referring people to other helpful support services when needed

You'll be based at the Barrow office but will also travel across the region, including Westmorland and Furness (Barrow-in-Furness, Millom, South Lakeland, and Penrith).
Access to your own vehicle is essential, and mileage is paid at £0.45 per mile.  Typically, you'll complete 3–5 visits per day (e.g., 5 if all visits are in Barrow).

Hours and Contract:
  • Options for full-time (37 hours) or part-time (30 hours) working
  • Monday to Friday, typically 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (with some flexibility)
  • Fixed-term contract until 28th February, with potential to extend

Who the charity is looking for: You might have experience in one of the following areas:
  • Working in the energy or utility sector (e.g., as a home meter reader or customer service advisor for energy, gas, or water companies)
  • Roles involving home visits to vulnerable clients (e.g., Supported Housing Officer, Income Recovery Officer, Outreach Worker)
  • A customer service or sales role that has involved visiting people in the home
  • A graduate with an environmental or sustainability-related degree, looking for a first step into the energy or environmental sector
