Pastoral Support Officer

An established Secondary Pupil Referral Unit in Chorlton, is dedicated to supporting vulnerable young people by leading a creative and high-quality curriculum, promoting inclusion for some of Manchester's most vulnerable young people and developing a nurturing and safe environment for all pupils across a number of settings. They are now seeking a Pastoral Support Officer to join their team, covering a period of maternity leave.

Role: Pastoral Support Officer
Location: Chorlton M21
Hours: Full-time, maternity cover (1 year)
Salary: £32,000 - £35,000 FTE
Start Date: 22nd April

The purpose of the role is to ensure effective safeguarding of the PRU's pupils, including attendance monitoring and management. The role includes compiling and reviewing data reports, reviewing written reports, and providing advice and guidance on safeguarding issues. You will manage a caseload of pupils, ensuring pupils are supported with appropriate interventions, including referrals to Social Care and accessing support for families.

The role involves higher-level safeguarding of Manchester's most vulnerable students and integral to the role is working with partner agencies, including the Alternative Provision Specialist Taskforce and school staff focused on providing timely interventions for at-risk pupils, including high-risk safeguarding. The context of safeguarding issues affecting pupils include; extra-familiar harm, serious youth violence and missing children. As part of the role, you will attend Child Protection meetings, Case Conferences, LAC reviews and Youth Justice PEPs.

Key Skills/Experience:

• Strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, Child Protection, Exclusions and KCSIE documents
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to deal calmly with confrontation
• Excellent IT skills, especially the use of school MIS systems
• A passion for improving the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged young people
• (Desirable) a relevant qualification in teaching, social work, youth work
• Full driving licence and own car - you will be required to work across multiple sites
