Job Description - Payroll Assistant - 6 Month FTC

As a Payroll Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring our staff are paid accurately and on time. Working within a payroll team, you will be responsible for processing payroll data, maintaining employee records, and supporting month-end reporting.
Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the preparation and processing of monthly payroll for all employees
Ensure compliance with statutory requirements (e.g. tax, NI, pensions)
Update and maintain employee payroll records with accuracy and confidentiality
Respond to payroll-related queries in a timely and professional manner
Liaise with third parties such as HMRC and pension providers
Support audit and reconciliation processes as required

What We’re Looking For:

Previous experience in a payroll role (preferably within the education sector or a similar environment)
Familiarity with payroll systems
Strong numerical skills and high attention to detail
Excellent organisational and communication skills
A team player who can also work independently

Desirable:

Knowledge of relevant payroll legislation and best practices
Experience with education sector payroll processes or systems

Contract Details:

Duration: 6 months (fixed term)
Location: Based in Sunderland, with potential for some hybrid working
Start Date: As soon as possible
