Job Description - Payroll Manager

Reed Accountancy are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to oversee the end-to-end payroll process for all employees on a 3 month temporary basis. This role is critical in ensuring timely, accurate payroll processing in line with the company regulations and internal deadlines. You will also lead on statutory reporting, compliance, and continuous improvement of payroll operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the full payroll cycle.
  • Ensure compliance with PAYE, NIC, P11Ds, and year-end processes.
  • Lead payroll audits, reconciliations, and compliance checks.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate data flow (e.g., new starters, leavers, variable pay).
  • Analyse and report on payroll data using advanced Excel functions (e.g., VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables).
  • Handle complex payroll queries with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Monitor legislative changes and ensure payroll policies remain compliant.
  • Provide timely and insightful payroll reports to senior leadership and finance teams.
  • Lead, develop, and support the payroll team through performance management and training.
  • Drive process improvements and support digital transformation initiatives.
  • Uphold risk management, diversity & inclusion, and customer fairness policies.
What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Proven experience managing a complex in-house payroll function.
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation.
  • Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, etc.).
  • CIPP qualification (or equivalent).
  • Strong leadership and people management experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and build effective relationships.
  • Experience in a multi-site or unionised environment.
