Pest Control Operative

• Salary: £14.13 per hour

• Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (minimum 6 months)

Our client is seeking a dedicated Pest Control Operative to join their team. This role involves responding to service requests across the borough, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety requirements. The successful candidate will have experience in pest control or a related field and possess strong communication skills.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Respond to complaints and requests for service, determining the nature of the infestation and identifying the pest involved.
• Conduct risk assessments of service requests and ensure compliance with Health & Safety requirements.
• Select appropriate pesticides, prepare and lay baits, poisons, and traps.
• Perform follow-up treatments or visits as required and ensure the proper disposal of rodents and other pest species.
• Collect and submit all monies related to Council charges.
• Secure additional contract work from the commercial sector and assist in pricing in accordance with current policy.
• Care for and ensure safe custody of vehicles, equipment, and pesticides, ensuring their operational use in accordance with the Council’s Safety Policy.
• Visit domestic and commercial premises, assess and carry out treatments in accordance with Council and service policies.
• Promote the work of the Pest Control Service in the commercial and business sector, encouraging business customers to take out contracts for pest management and control work.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Good verbal and written communication skills to deal with the public and colleagues and produce short reports.
• Ability to maintain accurate manual and computerised records.
• Numerical skills and accurate cash handling skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently with minimum supervision.
• Customer care skills, including listening and responding to customer needs.
• 2 years of experience in pest control or an equivalent discipline, and/or a recognised qualification such as BPCA or RSH certification in pest control.
• Ability to lift heavy weights, such as manhole covers, using approved lifting gear.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, such as lofts, cellars, and eaves, using ladders, scaffolds, or access platforms.
• Current driving licence.
• Willingness to work outside normal hours and wear the provided uniform.
