Overview:
Sutton Council is seeking an experienced Placement Officer to join their Accommodation Based Care Commissioning Team. This is a 4+ month contract offering a competitive rate of £26 per hour (paid umbrella). The role will involve sourcing and negotiating accommodation-based care placements for individuals with learning disabilities or mental health needs, while working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to ensure best outcomes for the community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Source and negotiate placement options for individuals with learning disabilities or mental health needs.

• Work closely with Adult Social Care Heads of Service and the Accommodation Based Care Commissioning Team to ensure the best value for the Council.

• Attend operational meetings and panels as required.

• Provide support, advice, and expertise to social workers and external agencies.

• Keep accurate records related to placement searches, costs, and service compliance.

• Assist in market shaping and performance management of service providers.

• Support the development of policies, procedures, and budget management to reduce high spend.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Knowledge of person-centred planning, self-directed support, and care planning.

• Familiarity with health and social care funding, housing options, and direct payments.

• Experience of negotiating placement rates and driving commercial benefits.

• Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

• High proficiency in IT, particularly in spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets), and documentation (Word/Google Docs).

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Understanding of the care needs of individuals with learning disabilities and mental health conditions.
