Job Title: Planning Officer
Location: Stockport (Hybrid – 2 days in office)
Contract Type: 6-Month
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
Pay Rate: £40 - £45 per hour (DOE)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Planning Officer to join our team in Stockport on a 6-month fixed-term contract. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic local authority planning department, working on a diverse range of planning applications including those in greenbelt and conservation areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of planning applications, including complex and sensitive cases.
• Provide professional advice on planning legislation and policy to internal and external stakeholders.
• Conduct site visits and prepare detailed reports and recommendations.
• Liaise with applicants, agents, and members of the public in a clear and professional manner.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and local planning policies.

Essential Requirements

• RTPI membership (or eligibility/working towards membership).
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in town planning, ideally within a local authority setting.
• Strong working knowledge of UK planning legislation and policy.
• Proven experience handling applications in greenbelt and conservation areas.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and workload management skills.
• A full current UK driving licence – site visits are a key part of the role.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid working environment.
