Job Title: PostgreSQL DBA - Migration Specialist
Location: Edinburgh or London
Type: 6 month contract with extensions up to a further 12 months

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team and lead critical migration initiatives involving high volume number of applications, including complex payments systems. This is a key role in a high-impact project aimed at modernising our data infrastructure and ensuring seamless transition from legacy platforms to PostgreSQL.

Key Responsibilities:

-Lead the end-to-end migration of databases for 34 business-critical applications to PostgreSQL.
-Plan, coordinate, and execute migration strategies with minimal downtime and risk.
-Ensure the integrity, security, and performance of databases throughout the migration lifecycle.
-Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and payments teams to align data models and application requirements.
-Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, performance bottlenecks, and replication challenges.
-Develop documentation, migration runbooks, and operational procedures.
-Contribute to the long-term optimisation, automation, and scalability of our PostgreSQL environments.

Required Skills & Experience:

Proven experience as a PostgreSQL DBA, particularly in large-scale migration projects.
Deep understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, configuration, tuning, and security best practices.
Experience with payment systems, transactional data, and high-availability requirements.
Familiarity with legacy-to-PostgreSQL migration tools and processes (e.g., AWS DMS, pg_dump/pg_restore, logical replication).
Strong scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python) and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
Ability to manage complex dependencies and stakeholder communication across multiple applications.

Desirable:
Experience with cloud-based PostgreSQL (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure Database for PostgreSQL).
Knowledge of PCI-DSS compliance or other financial services regulations.
Exposure to DevOps or Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) environments.
