Job Description - Primary Behavior Specialist

Behaviour Mentor

Job Title: Behaviour Mentor – Mainstream Primary School - High SEN/SEMH
Location: Runcorn - WA7

Contract Type: Full-Time

Start Date: Immediate or after May Half Term
Pay: £101.40 - 110per day (depending on experience)

About the School:

This inclusive and nurturing special school provides a tailored learning environment for pupils with the following needs:

  • ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder)

  • SLCN (Speech, Language and Communication Needs)

  • MLD, SLD and PMLD (Moderate, Severe, and Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties)

  • PD (Physical Disabilities)

  • OTH (Other Difficulties/Disabilities)

The school is committed to delivering high-quality, individualised education and promoting positive behaviour through empathy, structure, and therapeutic approaches.

Role Overview:

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will:

  • Support students who display challenging behaviours linked to SEN.

  • Implement behaviour management strategies and personalised intervention plans.

  • Work 1:1 or with small groups to help pupils regulate emotions and engage in learning.

  • Collaborate closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to ensure holistic care.

  • Foster a safe, supportive, and consistent environment that enables every pupil to thrive.

Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour, preferably in an SEN or alternative provision setting.

  • Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and trauma-informed practices.

  • Patience, resilience, and a calm, positive approach to supporting pupils with complex needs.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • A background in youth work, psychology, mental health, or education is advantageous.
