Job Description - Primary - Teaching Assistant

Special Needs Teaching Assistant, Slough Primary School, September 2025.
  • £100 to £125 per day depending upon experience
  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Ofsted: "good" - see below in bold

Join this amazing and dedicated team at friendly and diverse Primary School in Slough as a Special Needs Teaching Assistant. This vital role focuses on supporting students within the SEND department, particularly those with autism and Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD). This primary school has been praised in its latest Ofsted report for its "outstanding support to special educational needs students" and its "inclusive environment that champions every child's right to education."

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with autism and PMLD, adapting to their individual learning needs.
  • Implement and adapt Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the SEND coordinator and subject teachers to enhance student learning.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining a supportive, safe, and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Use a variety of techniques to promote learning and engagement through sensory, interactive, and adaptive activities.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of students, maintaining detailed records and providing feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Support the social and emotional development of students, helping them build confidence and independence.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a Teaching Assistant, preferably within a special needs environment.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges faced by students with autism and PMLD.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with teaching staff and parents.
  • A patient, caring, and creative approach to teaching and supporting students.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or special needs education are highly desirable.
