Principal Accountant

My client is a Local Authority in the North East who are looking to appoint a Principal Accountant on an Interim basis.

About the role:

Based in the North East (Hybrid):

The purpose of this role is to support the provision of a specialist financial management service through a range of accounting and financial reporting services which inform and support the decision-making requirements.

What's on offer:

• Rates: £180 - £400 per day inside IR35.

*Negotiable based on experience

• Contract type: Contract (37 hrs a week)
• Hours: 09:00 -17:00

Responsibilities:

1. Responsibility for the technical financial aspects affecting the Council's companies including cash flow management, income, payments, banking and tax.
2. Lead on the annual closedown of the Council's companies for specified area to trial balance position or statement of accounts as appropriate.
3. Liaise with appointed external accountants / auditors to ensure production of final accounts in accordance with timeframes and required standards.

About you:
You will have the following experience:

Fully Qualified Accountant***

Able to develop knowledge or experience of or undertake:

• Business partnering for the areas of responsibility.
• Excellent analytical skills to work through complex matters, develop financial models, including scenario planning.
• Final accounts, budget preparation, cash flow management and budget monitoring.
• Grant claims and other financial returns.
