Principal Building Control Inspector

Job Title: Principal Building Control Inspector
Pay Rate: £80 per hour

Tripod is seeking an experienced Principal Building Control Inspector to join a local authority team based in Northamptonshire. This role is focused on delivering a high-quality building control service, ensuring compliance with the Building Regulations and associated legislation, and leading on complex projects. The successful candidate will take a senior technical role in the team and support the Building Control Manager in day-to-day service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out full building control activities including plan checks, site inspections, dangerous structures and demolitions.

• Lead on complex projects and support Inspectors within the team.

• Enforce compliance with the Building Regulations through formal enforcement when necessary.

• Maintain accurate records and case notes as per regulator standards.

• Provide senior technical advice and legislative guidance.

• Support delivery of strategic changes and service transformation.

• Coordinate and issue fee quotations for incoming requests.

• Deputise for the Building Control Manager when required.

• Contribute to budget management and financial planning.

• Support carbon reduction strategies through sustainable construction oversight.

Requirements:

• Degree in a construction-related discipline or equivalent experience.

• Registered Building Inspector with suitable competency for complex projects.

• Membership of MCABE, MRICS, MCIOB or equivalent (or ability to demonstrate equivalency).

• Extensive experience in Building Control surveying, particularly on complex projects.

• Strong working knowledge of Building Regulations and associated legislation.

• Excellent time management, communication, negotiation, and IT skills.

• Willingness to participate in out-of-hours dangerous structure response.

• Valid driving licence and willingness to travel across the county.

Location: Northamptonshire (site-based)
Duration: 3 months
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
Work Pattern: Monday to Friday
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
