About Us:
We are excited to introduce a key addition to our newly formed, dynamic "Legal Hub." As the Principal In-House Counsel (Deputy Monitoring Officer), you will play a pivotal role at the heart of the Council's commercial and governance activities. This position is primarily advisory, allowing you to focus on providing high-quality legal support rather than managing a heavy transactional caseload.

Role Overview:
In this position, you will provide essential legal guidance on governance, strategic developments, commercial matters, and transformational projects. You will be responsible for delivering solution-focused legal advice to internal clients and members while ensuring high standards of probity and compliance with Council policies and the law. Your leadership will foster a collaborative environment where kindness is valued, and positive outcomes are prioritised.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality legal advice in areas such as contracts, procurement, property, planning, and housing delivery.
  • Advise on Cabinet reports and other critical documentation, ensuring compliance and clarity.
  • Support project boards in governance matters, addressing legal issues promptly.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, fostering trust and confidence.
  • Assess complaints regarding members, providing guidance on resolution.

Who We're Looking For:

  • Experienced Monitoring Officer or Deputy Monitoring Officer, or an individual with the capability to step into that role, ideally with experience at the Principal Lawyer or Head of Legal level in a large unitary authority or London.
  • A candidate with a commercial background and expertise in at least one of the following: contracts/procurement, property and regeneration (including CPO and appropriation), planning, or housing delivery (including council social housing and s20 notices).
  • Competent in advising on and preparing Cabinet reports, as well as other council documentation.
  • Experienced in advising project boards and navigating governance issues effectively.
  • Experience in assessing complaints about members.

Why Join Us?
As Council of the Year 2021, we are ambitious for Hounslow and genuinely seek candidates who care about our community and are committed to making a positive impact. You will have the opportunity to work fluidly with Directorates, Members, and key stakeholders, enhancing your skill set in a supportive environment.

Perks of the Role:

  • Engage in a collaborative and friendly work culture where kindness is welcomed.
  • Opportunity for professional growth and development.
  • Contribute to meaningful projects that make a difference in the community.

If you are passionate about providing high-quality legal advice, have a strong commercial background, and want to play a vital role in our Legal Hub, we encourage you to apply. Your expertise will help shape the future of Hounslow!

To apply, please submit your CV detailing your relevant experience and why you would be an excellent fit for this role.
