• Band: 6

• Location: HMP in Kent

• Duration: 3 months

• Working Hours: Long days (07:15–19:45) and nights (19:30–07:30)

• Start Date: ASAP

• Rate of Pay: £30 p/h umbrella (days) £35ph unsocial hours

• Essential Requirements: Prison clearance, access to keys, SystmOne experience

As a Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner working within the in-patients department at HMP Elmley, your day will be both challenging and rewarding. You’ll complete admissions and discharges, develop and implement care plans, and conduct thorough mental health and risk assessments for a diverse patient group with both mental and physical health needs.

Each day will include medication dispensing, collaborative MDT working, and responding to acute presentations. You’ll liaise with prison staff and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for your patients. Your documentation will be completed using SystmOne, requiring solid IT proficiency. Working within a secure environment demands a high level of situational awareness, resilience, and the ability to manage challenging situations safely and effectively.

• Registration: Current and valid NMC registration (RMN or RGN)

• Experience: Minimum two years in acute general hospital or frontline crisis mental health services, preferably within a prison or secure setting

• Skills: Risk assessment, care planning, medication management, and use of SystmOne

• Attributes: Resilient, adaptable, and calm under pressure

• Compliance: Prison clearance and access to keys is essential
