Job Description - Repairs & Maintenance Surveyor

Repairs and Maintenance Surveyor (Temporary)

  • Location: Barnsley, Borough-wide travel required
  • Job Type: Temporary (until 2nd January 2026)
  • Hourly rate: £25-£30 per hour PAYE.

We are seeking a Repairs and Maintenance Surveyor for a temporary placement to backfill a position due to staff transitions. This role involves extensive travel across the borough to assess our housing stock and determine necessary repairs. The successful candidate will use their own vehicle for travel and will be provided with an iPad to complete reports and paperwork.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Conduct technical surveys across various properties and produce detailed scopes of work and drawings.
  • Manage contracts and track jobs from initiation to completion while ensuring robust financial control.
  • Liaise with contractors, partners, and customers regarding work requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of quality and safety in the delivery of both Revenue & Capital workstreams.
  • Develop and review strategies, policies, specifications, and action plans related to Repairs & Maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory legislation and health & safety obligations.
  • Utilize provided technology (iPad) to maintain accurate records and complete necessary documentation.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Relevant Level 4 qualification (e.g., HNC/NVQ) in a related field, or extensive experience with a willingness to achieve this qualification in a reasonable timescale.
  • Experience in a similar role within the housing sector, preferably with knowledge of building maintenance and safety regulations.
  • Ability to diagnose building defects and make technical recommendations.
  • Strong contract management skills and experience with financial oversight of projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and own vehicle for work-related travel.
  • Basic DBS clearance required.
